Our Trip - Day 1
Getting to Red Lake, Ontario was an adventure!
The trip started on August 3, 2006. Uncle Raym departed from Wisconsin bright and early in the morning. The GOAL...to meet up with the guys in International Falls, Minnesota, and then travel to Red Lake, Ontario.
Troy was supposed to fly out of Philadelphia, PA. Dad, Rich and Vern were supposed to fly out of Tampa. The group would meet up in Minneapolis, MN, and then take a commuter flight into Red Lake, Ontario.
Troy's flight was delayed out of Philadelphia, PA ... and the connection flight was in jeopardy ... fortunately, due to delays in the connection flight, the group met as planned and made it to Red Lake at approximately 6:30 PM (2 hour delay).
The group left International Falls, MN at 6:30 PM. Troy, Vern & Rich rode in the rental car (a full-size cargo van), and Dad & Uncle Raym rode in the Jeep Liberty. Going through the border was effortless.
The trip to Red Lake, Ontario itself was LONG, but interesting. The trip itself took approximately 5 hours, 15 minutes, with the group stopping for a coffee break along the way.
The passengers kept a watchful eye for moose or other animals. Along the way, the group saw 2 moose, 4 fox, and one deer.
We also saw hundreds of rock pilings along the road, which apparently were used by indians as a way to mark the trail.
Photograph of a few of the rock pilings we saw along the way.
